Report: Premier League club prioritising move for former Spurs star

Newcastle United have reportedly made signing Gareth Bale from Real Madrid one of their priorities this summer, according to a report from Marca.

Bale has been linked with a return to Tottenham almost every transfer window for the last few years and January was no different.

Daniel Levy reportedly made a big effort to bring the winger back to North London in the final days of the January transfer window (Daily Mail) but he once again ended up staying put at Los Blancos.

With Madrid having to sell players before they can buy, they are said to be desperate to move the Welshman on this summer (AS).

Marca now reports that the 30-year-old might be Newcastle bound once the club’s takeover bid from a group of investors including the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund is complete.

It is said that the Magpies prospective new owners have prioritised a move for the former Spurs star.

The report also reveals that Tottenham’s first refusal clause for Bale expired last summer and Newcastle are thus said to be the favourites to land Bale if they can convince him to make the move to the North East.

Despite the money that Newcastle could potentially throw around, I am not convinced that Bale even wants to return to the Premier League. In most of his interviews, it comes across as if he is happy with what he has achieved in his career and looking for a big payday in either the MLS or the Chinese Super League.
