Report: Premier League club reject Tottenham’s approach for 22-goal striker

While all the focus over the past few days has been on Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit to re-sign Gareth Bale, talkSPORT reports that the North Londoners have also made an audacious offer to try and sign Danny Ings.

According to the report, despite potentially sealing the signing of Bale, Jose Mourinho wants to add more firepower to his frontline and has identified Ings as the man to bolster his tacking options.

The Southampton star enjoyed a prolific season last time out, scoring 22 times in the Premier Leauge (transfermarkt.com) and missing out on the Golden Boot by just one goal.

It is claimed that Tottenham made an approach for Ings after being left frustrated in their efforts to sign Alexander Sorloth and Andrea Belotti, with the former now set for a move to RB Leipzig and the latter proving to be out of the club’s price range.

However, the report asserts that the Lilywhites’ approach for Ings was quickly turned down by Southampton, who remain adamant that the England international is not for sale.

Ings is reportedly down to the final two years of his contract at St Mary’s and it is said that the Saints are hoping to tie him down to a new deal.

The only hope we have of signing Ings is if he pushes for a move and refuses to sign a new deal with Southampton. However, I cannot see him being overly enthusiastic about coming to Spurs, especially given his tough experiences at Liverpool. It feels like Ings was finally starting to live up to his potential last season and I do not see him pushing for a move ahead of the Euros next summer.
