Report: Premier League club slap £40m price tag on rumoured Spurs target

The Daily Star have revealed that Manchester United have placed a £40m price tag on goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who has previously been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Mail reported in November last year that Henderson was one of the options on Spurs’ radar as a potential long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris, with MEN also reporting during January that Spurs had their eye on the England international.

However, Lloris has since signed a two-year contract extension with Tottenham, and it has emerged over recent weeks that the Lilywhites are confident of landing Sam Johnstone from West Brom on a free transfer as a backup goalkeeper (The Sun).

If Spurs are to reignite their interest in Henderson, the club would need to pay £40m for the Man Utd man, according to The Daily Star.

The report adds that the 25-year-old is desperate to leave Old Trafford this summer in order to give himself the best chance of making the England squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

It is asserted that Newcastle United are currently leading the race for Henderson’s signature.

With Lloris set to continue as number one, for the time being, I do not see us spending big on a goalkeeper this summer. Besides, Henderson will want guaranteed first-team football and so he is unlikely to be tempted by the prospect of joining Spurs.
