Report: Premier League club take decisive transfer stance on centre-back wanted by Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of signing Ben White appear to be over as Sky Sports have now revealed that Brighton have made it clear that they will not sell the central defender this summer.

White had an impressive season on loan at Leeds United last summer and was widely recognised as one of the best defenders in English football outside the Premier League.

The Sun revealed last week that Spurs were interested in signing the 22-year-old but faced stiff competition for his signature from other Premier League clubs.

Sky Sports now claim that Brighton have rejected a third bid from Leeds United for the defender worth around £25million.

The Seagulls are said to be determined to hold on to White, despite the youngster turning down multiple contract extension offers from the club.

The centre-back’s current deal at the Amex reportedly runs until 2022 but it is revealed that the club have the option of extending it by a further twelve months.

Having admitted defeat in their hunt for White, the report suggests that Leeds will now turn their attention to Robin Koch, who was also previously linked with a move to Spurs (Bild).

Spurs Web Opinion

We should be doing everything we can to get Ben White this summer as he ticks almost all the boxes in terms of what we need. He is young, immensely talented, relatively inexpensive and homegrown. I believe the 22-year-old will likely be first-choice centre-back for England within the next year or two, and it will only become harder to get him next summer once he proves himself in the Premier League.
