Report: Premier League club will ‘resist’ approach from Spurs for 21-year-old

90 min have claimed that Everton are expected to turn down any approach from Tottenham Hotspur for Jarrad Branthwaite.

It has been well documented that Spurs are on the lookout for a centre-back in January, with several outlets over recent weeks claiming that Branthwaite is one of the names on the Lilywhites’ wishlist (Daily Mail).

The 20-year-old was exceptional on loan at PSV Eindhoven last season and has hit the ground running on his return to his parent club, having established himself as a mainstay in the Everton backline this season.

On November 23, TEAMtalk claimed that Spurs would have to battle Manchester United for the England Under-21 international, with the youngster alleged to have also emerged as a top target for the Red Devils.

Everton will not sell Branthwaite to Tottenham

90 min have now confirmed that Tottenham are indeed eyeing a move for Branthwaite but the outlet says that the centre-back is viewed as more of a ‘long-term target’ by North London rather than as a potential January target.

The publication goes on to add that the Toffees would ‘resist’ any move from the Lilywhites for the young defender next month.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham would likely have to pay a huge fee (potentially north of £50m) to convince Everton to part ways with Branthwaite in January, given how well the youngster is progressing at his boyhood club at the moment.
