Report: Premier League club will tell Spurs that midfielder is not for sale

According to The Daily Mail, Southampton will inform Tottenham Hotspur and other interested clubs that James Ward-Prowse is not for sale.

Ward-Prowse has taken his game to another level over the past couple of seasons and, as a result, he is now a regular in the England squad.

The 27-year-old is also seemingly attracting the interest of several clubs in the Premier League including Spurs.

Alasdair Gold said on a Q&A in Football.London this week that the Saints star has been on Tottenham’s radar for a long time.

He added that Spurs could be in the market for a midfielder to replace Harry Winks this summer and that Ward-Prowse fits the bill for the kind of player Antonio Conte is looking for.

This has now been backed up by The Daily Mail, who state that Tottenham would be interested in Ward-Prowse ‘at the right price’.

The report reveals that the Lilywhites could face competition from Newcastle United, who are also said to have their eye on the Southampton captain.

However, it is asserted that the South Coast side are determined to keep Ward-Prowse at the club ahead of next season and will not entertain any offers.

Spurs Web Opinion

Ward-Prowse would be the ideal fit for us as he has the engine and tactical nous to thrive in Conte’s system and also possesses more creativity than any of our current central midfield options.

The Saints star would also fix our deadball issues and make us a potent threat from set-pieces. However, I do not think he is a realistic target for this summer.

The 27-year-old has four years left on his contract at St Mary’s and he does not strike me as the kind of personality to agitate for a move.
