Report: Tottenham Hotspur could be back in action ‘within weeks’

Our wait for footballing action to return could be almost over with The Sun reporting that Premier League football could be back on TV in a matter of weeks.

Previous reports claimed that the season is unlikely to resume before the start of June (Sky Sports).

However, The Sun claim that Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been briefed on plans for matches to be played behind closed doors.

It is alleged that he sees the resumption of live sport as the key to boosting the morale of the nation which has been affected after a number of weeks of lockdown.

The report reveals that the government considers sport as one of the first activities that can return after the coronavirus lockdown.

However, the government’s five restart tests (BBC) including cutting death and infection rates will first have to be met before the green light is given for sporting events to resume behind closed doors.

It is also asserted that some games could be aired on public platforms to stop people going round to their friends’ homes to watch live sport on subscription channels such as Sky Sports or BT Sport.

The Government’s next review of the lockdown will take place on Thursday, May 7th.

If true this is a great decision by the UK government as sporting events will give fans a welcome distraction from the mundanity of lockdowns. It is something that could certainly boost the nation’s morale and is likely to make people more accepting of the strict lockdown measures if they are to be extended.
