Report: Premier League defender makes decision on future amidst Spurs links

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Andreas Christensen is on the verge of signing a new contract with Chelsea, which could serve as a dent to Tottenham’s rumoured hopes of luring the defender to North London.

The Denmark international is approaching the end of his current deal which expires at the conclusion of the campaign, leaving his future at Stamford Bridge up in the air.

Reports emerged earlier this week claiming Spurs have been keeping tabs on Christensen ahead of a potential move across London, with Antonio Conte said to have shortlisted the 25-year-old as a target for January.

However, a reunion between Christensen and ex-Chelsea boss Conte looks set to be put on hold, with Di Marzio claiming the Dane is ‘just one step away’ from agreeing on a new deal with the Blues.

The report claims Christensen is close to agreeing fresh terms that would keep him at the club for another four years, with the option to extend for a further year.

Christensen has made 144 appearances for the Blues since making his breakthrough to the senior side in 2017.

Although Spurs allegedly held an interest in Christensen, it would have been a tricky move to complete given the rivalry between the two sides.

He is a good defender and well-equipped to play in a back three, having also played in the system under Conte before, but other options need to be considered now.
