Report: Premier League defender wanted by Spurs tempted by move to London

Reported Spurs target, Dejan Lovren, is said to favour a move to London as he prepares to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, according to a report in TEAMtalk.

Spurs are said to be in the market for a central defender in the summer with Jan Vertonghen expected to leave North London when his contract runs out (Football Insider).

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Lovren after the 30-year-old found himself falling down the pecking order at Anfield this season (La Lazio Siamo Noi). TEAMtalk now asserts that Jurgen Klopp will allow Lovern to leave at the end of this campaign.

It is claimed that there are a whole host of clubs across the continent, including sides from Italy, Spain, Germany and France, who have all made approaches to sign the Croatian international.

However, the report suggests that the central defender is tempted by a move to the capital. Apart from Spurs, Arsenal, West Ham and Crystal Palace are also reportedly ready to make an offer for the Liverpool man.

Spurs Web Opinion:

This is exactly the type of signing we should be avoiding if we want to close the gap to the top teams, instead of falling back even further. Not only will Lovren fail to solve our defensive frailties but he will also be a temporary stop-gap without any resale value in a couple of years. If Spurs want to catch up to Liverpool, they should not be looking at signing their bench players.
