Report: Premier League duo have not followed through on interest in Spurs player

The Athletic have revealed that Harry Winks’ departure from Tottenham is not imminent at the moment, with none of the clubs who expressed an interest in the midfielder following through with an offer.

Winks is one of four Tottenham players who have played no part in Antonio Conte’s pre-season plans so far, which suggests the England international is destined to depart his boyhood club.

The Evening Standard claimed earlier this summer that the 26-year-old is desperate to leave Spurs in search of regular game time after struggling for minutes last season.

Liverpool Echo reported last month that Leeds United and Southampton were battling it out for the midfielder’s signature, with Frank Lampard alleged to have identified the Tottenham man as the ideal option to bolster the Toffees’ midfield ranks.

Southampton (Evening Standard), Leicester City (Daily Mail) and Crystal Palace (Sami Mokbel –Last Word On Spurs) have also been credited with an interest in the Spurs star.

However, The Athletic have now revealed that Everton have ‘backed off’ from Winks and despite showing ‘tentative interest’ in the midfielder, Leeds are not expected to go ‘any further’ this summer.

The report adds that with a month to go in the transfer window, many buying clubs are still ‘assessing their options’.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think finding a buyer for Winks will be an issue for Tottenham this summer as I expect at least a couple of Premier League clubs to show interest in the midfielder in the final weeks of the window.

Finding a buyer to pay market value for the likes of Reguilon, Lo Celso and Emerson will be a bigger challenge as not a lot of Italian and Spanish clubs have money to spend this summer.
