Report: Premier League eyes are on star who allegedly wanted Spurs transfer

CalcioMercato have revealed that Cagliari midfielder, Nahitan Nandez, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, could be on the market during the January transfer window.

Nandez has enjoyed two solid campaigns for Cagliari since arriving in Italian football from his native Uruguay back in the summer of 2019.

The midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Spurs during the summer transfer window, with reports stating the Uruguay international had put in a transfer request and was keen on completing a move to North London.

However, the transfer did not materialise, with sources suggesting that Tottenham pulled out of the deal since they found Cagliari’s €30m (£25.7m) asking price to be excessive.

It remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites will reignite their interest in Nandez when the transfer window reopens in January.

CalcioMercato have now revealed that the 25-year-old is set to be available for sale in January after failing to seal a move away from the Cagliari over the summer.

The report adds that the midfielder is the subject of interest from the Premier League but does not specify which clubs have their eyes on the player.

Spurs Web Opinion

I expect Paratici to prioritise strengthening in central midfield during the January transfer window. However, I am not convinced that Nandez would be an upgrade over what we have.

If we want to close the gap with the top four, we need a Neves/Bissouma/Kessie type of signing who would instantly improve our starting eleven.
