Report: Premier League rival have entered race for Spurs target Pedro Porro

According to A Bola (07/01/23 print edition, front page), Chelsea have now entered the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Pedro Porro.

Porro is thought to be Tottenham’s top target for the right wing-back role this month (The Athletic), with multiple publications reporting on the north London club’s pursuit of the player over the last couple of weeks.

Various sources (including AS and Fabrizio Romano) have confirmed recently that Spurs are in talks with Sporting over a deal for the right-back but the transfer is being held back by the Portuguese club’s insistence on the player’s £40m release clause being met.

Record reported on Saturday that Barcelona and Atletico Madrid had also enquired about Porro but added that both clubs are eyeing a summer deal rather than a move during the current window.

If A Bola’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs might also face competition from Chelsea for the 23-year-old over the coming days, with the publication suggesting that the Spaniard is on the Blues’ wishlist.

However, it is explained that Porro is not the only right-back that Graham Potter’s men are eyeing, with Celtic’s Josip Juranovic also said to be on the radar.

The report states that the Stamford Bridge outfit are expected to make a final decision on which right-back they want to pursue over the next few days.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is quite interesting that these reports of Barca’s, Atletico’s and Chelsea’s interest are all coming from Portuguese outlets rather than any Spanish or English ones. That suggests that it might be Sporting who are feeding the reports to the media to put pressure on Spurs to pay Porro’s release clause.
