Report: Premier League rival set to allow rumoured Spurs target leave in the summer

Manchester City are ready to offload Joao Cancelo in the summer after the Portuguese defender failed to make the desired impact at the Etihad Stadium, according to reports.

Spurs were linked heavily with a move for Cancelo last month with Spanish publication El Desmarque reporting that the full back had even held discussions with Jose Mourinho about moving to North London.

The former Juventus man was reportedly keen on leaving City in search of more game time in order to seal his place in Portugal’s squad for the Euros in the summer but he ended up staying with Pep Guardiola’s men beyond the window (The Sun).

However, a report by The Sun now claims that the reigning Premier League champions have decided to cut their losses on the right back after his disappointing first season in English football.

The report suggests that Inter Milan and Bayern Munich are both interested in signing the 25-year-old which could mean that Spurs could face considerable competition if they rekindle their interest at the end of the campaign.

It is revealed that City value the defender they signed last summer from Juventus at £50million.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is unlikely that Spurs are going to be interested in Cancelo in anywhere near the quoted price. Besides, with Serge Aurier’s resurgence, it makes sense for the club to go in for a younger option to compete with the Ivorian. Max Aarons would be ideal and he wouldn’t be too expensive given Norwich seem destined for relegation.
