Report: Premier League rival willing to match or better any Spurs offer to Eriksen

According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle United are keen to beat the likes of Tottenham to the signing of Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen has not only proven his fitness on his return to competitive football but the midfielder has shown, for both club and country, that he retains the final third quality that set him apart during his spell at Spurs.

Multiple sources (The Daily Mail and Inews) have claimed over recent weeks that the Lilywhites are following the attacking midfielder’s progress closely and are contemplating bringing him back to North London in the summer.

However, The Northern Echo now state that Newcastle want to make the 30-year-old one of their flagship pieces of transfer business this summer.

The Magpies officials are said to be ‘increasingly hopeful’ of seeing off competition from the likes of Spurs and West Ham for Eriksen.

The report adds Eddie Howe’s side are prepared to offer the midfielder a significant increase to his current salary and would be willing to match or better any offers the Dane receives from other Premier League clubs.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Eriksen continues performing the way he is at the moment, there will likely be a long queue of clubs vying for his signature this summer. As great as it would be to see the 30-year-old back at Spurs, I am not convinced that he will be at the top of Conte’s wishlist as far as an attacking midfielder is concerned.
