Report: Premier League rivals also ‘admire’ Vincent Kompany amid Spurs links

The Times have revealed that Chelsea ‘admire’ Vincent Kompany, who has been heavily linked with the Tottenham job over the last few weeks.

Multiple outlets have reported over the last month that Kompany is one of the names on Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Antonio Conte (Daily Star).

The Sun went one step further, reporting last Wednesday that the Manchester City legend has now shot up to the top of Spurs’ wishlist.

The publication claimed that the Tottenham hierarchy have been ‘blown away’ by the work that Kompany has done since taking over at Burnley and the football he has got the Clarets playing.

The Daily Mail subsequently reported last Thursday (April 13) that Daniel Levy has a ‘definite fancy’ for the 36-year-old even though members of the Tottenham board are pushing the cases of other candidates.

If The Times’ latest update is to be believed, Kompany also has admirers among the Chelsea hierarchy, who are now in the process of narrowing down their search for a new head coach.

The report explains the West London club have already spoken to Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann, and are now expected to talk to other candidates before settling on their top target.

The report adds that Mauricio Pochettino, Luciano Spalletti and Rúben Amorim are also on the Blues’ shortlist.

Spurs Web Opinion

It appears as if both Tottenham and Chelsea essentially have the same shortlist, which is not surprising.

Nagelsmann and Enrique seem to be the two leading candidates for the Chelsea job but I suspect that Spurs would not be too keen on the Spaniard unless Paratici is cleared off his charges and resumes his role as managing director.

It would be quite understandable if Levy and co are leaning towards up, and coming managers like Kompany and Slot, given how the Mourinho and Conte experiments have backfired.
