Report: Premier League rivals hold negotiations for centre-back wanted by Spurs

Sky Sports have revealed that Manchester City have emerged as a possible contender to sign rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target, Ruben Dias.

Most of the talk over the past few days has been regarding Tottenham’s pursuit of Milan Skriniar, with the club flying representatives to Italy to hold talks regarding the Inter Milan defender (Calcio Mercato).

Reports have indicated that Dias is another central defensive option who is on Tottenham’s radar, with the Lilywhites still retaining an interest in the 23-year-old despite their advances being turned down by Benfica in January (Evening Standard).

However, Sky Sports now claims that Manchester City have held talks with Benfica regarding the Portuguese international, with Nicolas Otamendi possibly moving in the opposite direction.

It is claimed that City could turn their attentions to Dias as they are not ready to meet Napoli’s valuation of Kalidou Koulibaly.

The report asserts that Benfica value the central defender at more than £50 million.

It is clear by now that Skriniar is the player we are concentrating most of our efforts on, with Dias possibly being our fall back option in case the deal for the Slovak does not go through. Some Spurs fans on social media have suggested that they would prefer Dias over Skriniar but the Inter man will be the less-riskier purchase of the two since he is proven at a top side already. Skriniar is also much more of a Mourinho-type of centre-half given his dominance in duals and his ability to defend one vs one.
