Report: Premier League rivals move ahead of Spurs in race for Pedro Porro

Mundo Deportivo have claimed that Chelsea have now overtaken Tottenham in the race for Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Porro.

Multiple outlets have revealed over recent days (Fabrizio Romano and The Guardian) that Tottenham would have to pay Porro’s £40m release clause to sign him during the current transfer window, but the North London club are allegedly not willing to pay that amount (AS).

Much to Spurs fans’ consternation, the print edition of A Bola (07/01/23) revealed over the weekend that Chelsea had also entered the race for the Sporting Lisbon star’s signature.

Mundo Deportivo have now also reported on the Blues’ interest in Porro, stating that the West London club and Spurs are battling it out for the 23-year-old.

The report asserts that Graham Potter’s men are now ‘the closest’ to the right-back’s signing, with the club determined to reinforce their squad considerably on the back of their poor results.

The publication adds, however, that Chelsea still ‘need more time’ to push through a deal for the Sporting man.

Spurs Web Opinion

If there is truth to Chelsea’s approach for Porro, then it is quite concerning as the West London club would likely be prepared to meet the right-back’s release clause, given the money that Todd Boehly appears prepared to shell out during the current transfer window. Perhaps this will cause Spurs to accelerate their approach and pay up the Spaniard’s clause.
