Report: Premier League rivals open talks with right-back wanted by Spurs

According to reports from Spain, Manchester United have begun discussions with Barcelona over the transfer of Nelson Semedo, a player who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar this summer.

Semedo has seen himself fall out of favour at Barcelona this season and the Portuguese full-back is reportedly having doubts over committing his future to the Catalan giants, despite there being an offer on the table (Sport).

Tottenham are said to be long-time admirers of the 26-year-old (Don Balon), who will reportedly be available for around £39 million this summer.

Sport now report (as relayed by the Metro) that Manchester United are providing strong competition for Tottenham in the race for the right-back’s signature.

The report claims that the Red Devils might have the upper hand in the battle as they have already opened talks with Barcelona in order to gauge the defender’s potential availability.

The report adds that Manchester City are also keen on Semedo and are willing to offer Joao Cancelo in a deal for the Portugal international.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Semedo is a decent right-back, I don’t think there is too much value in this deal, especially given the prices being branded about. Max Aarons is a lot younger and will probably come much cheaper than the Portuguese defender. He also has a year of Premier League experience under his belt and a much higher ceiling than Semedo.
