Report: Premier League side in ‘advanced talks’ to sign rumoured Spurs target

Over recent days, we have seen some Spurs fans on social media go into a meltdown due to the fact that the club have not been able to get a striker in to serve as Harry Kane’s understudy.

Perhaps one of the reasons some fans are panicking is that multiple rumoured targets, such as Callum Wilson (Express) and Ollie Watkins (The Athletic), have been snapped up by the likes of Newcastle United and Aston Villa respectively.

It now looks as though Spurs are also set to miss out on another rumoured target in Troy Deeney, with Football Insider revealing that West Brom are closing in on his signature.

The report does mention whether Jose Mourinho’s side showed interest in the Watford man but it is said that the Baggies have now pulled clear of the Lillywhites in the race for Deeney’s signature.

It is said that the newly-promoted side are in advanced talks with the Hornets and have made progress in agreeing the terms of a deal.

The report reveals that promise of regular game time from Slaven Bilic played an important role in convincing the 32-year-old to make a switch to the Hawthorns.

Spurs Web Opinion

If recent reports are to be believed, while the likes of Wilson, Watkins and Deeney were on Tottenham’s list, they were contingency options rather than priorities. It does not sound like we pushed hard for any of them, although like we might have taken a punt on Watkins if Brentford’s asking price had been lower. It now looks like we have turned our attentions abroad with Arek Milik being the one touted as our main target.
