According to a report from Foot Mercato, Watford are looking to snap up rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Youcef Atal this summer.

Tottenham were linked with a move for the 24-year-old last summer (DZ Football) and reports suggested that the club could return for the Nice star’s services this year (BILD).

Foot Mercato now reveal that the Algerian international could indeed be on his way to the Premier League this summer, but it is Watford and not Spurs who are suggested as a potential destination.

The report claims that the Hornets have already spoken to Atal’s representatives about a summer move, while Napoli are said to have done the same.

However, it is asserted that Nice are keen to hold on to the defender beyond the summer and Atal, who is contracted to the Ligue 1 club until 2023, is happy to stay at the Allianz Riviera stadium.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am convinced that many of the Spurs fans who got extremely excited about the links to Atal last summer had never actually seen him play and were basing their assessment of him on a few YouTube videos. There are still question marks over the Algerian’s defensive capabilities, which is probably why he has not been snapped up by an elite European club yet.
