Report: Premier League side weighing up Mauricio Pochettino move

The Sun have revealed that Manchester City are lining up Mauricio Pochettino to take over as their next manager should Pep Guardiola fail to agree to a new deal.

City’s 3-1 defeat to Lyon in the Champions League quarter final came as quite a shock and it meant that Guardiola’s men ended the campaign with just a League Cup to show for their efforts.

The Sun claim that the Catalan coach has just ten months left to run on his deal at the Etihad but City are ready to offer him an extension.

However, it remains to be seen if the 49-year-old will agree to commit his future to the club beyond next season.

It is claimed that Pochettino has many admirers in the City hierarchy and he will be the one they go for should Guardiola not extend his contract.

The former Tottenham boss has also been established as the front-runner to replace Quique Setien for the Barcelona hot seat (Evening Standard).

Spurs Web Opinion

Pochettino will be extremely pleased that he remained patient rather than jumping back into management at the first opportunity, as vacancies seem to be opening up at one by one at some of Europe’s top clubs.

I cannot really see Guardiola leaving City this summer and so I do not think Poch is likely to end up at the Etihad. The Barcelona job might not be a great fit for him either given their financial circumstances around the club and the election scheduled for next year.

I still think that the PSG job might open up if the Ligue 1 champions do not get the better of Leipzig on Tuesday night as there were some big question marks over Thomas Tuchel’s future just a few months ago.
