Report: Premier League star faces uncertain future amid Spurs interest

The Athletic have revealed that David Raya’s future in Brentford looks uncertain amidst interest from several clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Mail reported last month that Tottenham want to replace Hugo Lloris in the summer with a goalkeeper who is adept with the ball at his feet and can make good decisions under pressure, naming Raya as one of the names on the North London club’s shortlist.

The 27-year-old has developed impressively since first moving to the Brentford Community Stadium back in 2019 but his current deal at the club has less than 18 months left to run (Transfermarkt).

The Athletic have now stated that the Bees are uncertain about Raya’s future, with the goalkeeper said to be of interest to Spurs, Manchester United and Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report adds that while Brentford want to hang on to the Spain international, the player has already turned down a contract offered by the club and there has been limited contact with his representatives since.

It is asserted that Thomas Frank’s men thus run the risk of losing Raya in the summer and would not be able to get maximum value for him since he will have just one year left on his contract in June.

I do not think either Raya or Jordan Pickford will sign a new contract with Brentford and Everton respectively, as they will be aware that Spurs, Chelsea and Man Utd are all likely to be in the market for a new goalkeeper in the summer. In fact, I would not be surprised if those clubs had already contacted the representatives of both players.
