Report: Premier League star ‘nears Tottenham move’ as club’s third summer signing

The Telegraph report that Wolves are set to make a move for Valencia defender Thierry Correia as they brace themselves for an offer from Tottenham Hotspur for Matt Doherty.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reported on Tuesday that Doherty has emerged as a target for Spurs as the club attempt to sign an upgrade over Serge Aurier at right-back.

The Telegraph now claims that the Republic of International is now Spurs’ number one right-back target this summer, even claiming in the headline of their reporting that he is nearing a Tottenham move.

Mourinho has reportedly been impressed with the experienced defender’s performances over the last two years and believes he could be a solid addition to the Spurs squad.

The report asserts that the North Londoners are looking to snap up the 28-year-old for around £15million this summer.

It is claimed that Wolves have moved swiftly for Correia as they face the prospect of losing Doherty amidst Tottenham’s interest.

Nuno Espirito Santo is said to want to bring both Correia and Ainsley Maitland-Niles to Molineux in case Wolves lose Doherty.

Spurs Web Opinion

The Doherty transfer seems to be moving fairly quickly since it was first reported by Alasdair Gold on Tuesday. Doherty’s attacking output, relatively modest price and the fact that he is homegrown makes him the ideal addition for us. It remains to be seen if Mourinho would be content with signing just one right-back this summer and using Gedson and Tanganga as cover.
