Report: Price must be ‘re-discussed’ for club to sign Tottenham player

According to Il Mattino (06/03/23 as relayed by Sport Witness), Napoli will not sign Tanguy Ndombele unless Tottenham are willing to lower the midfielder’s asking price.

Ndombele has struggled to break into Napoli’s starting eleven this season and the Frenchman has not been helped by the fact that the Serie A club have enjoyed a near-flawless campaign so far, going strong in the Champions League and having a 15-point lead at the top of the league table.

There have been some mixed reports from Italy over recent weeks regarding whether or not Napoli will take up the £30m option to sign the 26-year-old permanently in the summer.

Area Napoli reported on 12 February that Ndombele seems destined to return to Spurs at the end of the season but this was contradicted by CalcioNapoli24, who claimed two weeks ago Luciano Spalletti’s men would consider signing the midfielder if the price is right.

Il Mattino have now backed up the latter, explaining that it is ‘clear’ to everyone at Napoli that the Tottenham man has ‘potential’ but the coaching staff at the Italian club expected him to adapt quicker to his new surroundings.

The report states that as things stand, Napoli are expected to let Ndombele return to Tottenham but the Serie A table-toppers may decide to keep him if the Premier League club ‘re-discuss’ the price.

Spurs Web Opinion

I have no doubts that Tottenham would be willing to renegotiate the price for Ndombele if Napoli are interested as the North London club’s priority would be to get the Frenchman off their wage bill.

The only way that could change is if Pochettino returns to the club and decides to offer the 26-year-old’s Spurs career a lifeline.
