Report provides Spurs and Chelsea update in the race for Pedro Porro

Record report that, despite claims Chelsea are also in pursuit of Sporting Lisbon right-wing-back Pedro Porro, Spurs are the only club to have ‘verbally made official’ their intentions (11/01/23 via SportWitness).

The report goes on to state that Tottenham have not actually made an official bid yet, but are aware of the €45m price tag needed to sign Porro. It is also said that Spurs have offered the player himself an annual wage of around €5m.

Correio da Manha also report that the result of Sporting vs Benfica this weekend could influence the decision to sell Marcus Edwards or Porro, as a defeat for Sporting would likely leave them too far short to win the title this season. As such, they may choose to focus on next year already (11/01/23 via Sport Witness).

This all comes after Mundo Deportivo reported that Chelsea have overtaken Spurs in the race for Porro and are the ‘closest’ to his signing, but Record appear to deny that.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I think what some fans are overlooking a little is that release clauses have to be paid in full immediately. That is really not how transfer deals are done anymore. Spurs being able to pay £40m tomorrow, and being able to pay £40m over five-year instalments are very different things.
