Report provides Spurs and Man Utd update on Pau Torres after Fabrizio Romano comments

According to the Express, Tottenham and Manchester United are locked in a transfer battle for the signature of Spanish centre-back Pau Torres.

Torres has been impressing at La Liga side, Villarreal, making 47 appearances and scoring six goals in all competitions last season (TransferMarkt).

The centre-back played a crucial role as Unai Emery’s men advanced all the way to the Champions League semi-final, eventually being knocked out by Liverpool (UEFA).

Spurs have reportedly been tracking Torres and could attempt to send Giovani Lo Celso the other way in part exchange in order to complete a deal for the 25-year-old (Daily Mail).

However, the Daily Mail claim that both Man United and Chelsea have also registered an interest in Torres, meaning any potential transfer for Spurs may involve competition.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Fabrizio Romano recently weighed in on the situation, suggesting he sees the left-sided centre-back plying his trade in the Premier League next season.

He said: “I see Pau Torres playing in the Premier League next season because it’s a serious possibility, but at the moment, it’s still not something advanced between clubs.”

The Express have relayed these comments, claiming the fight could be between Spurs and Manchester United if Pau Torres is to transfer this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Antonio Conte wants Torres this summer, then you would think the allure of the Champions League, living in London, and working under a top coach would be enough to convince the player to join. However, when a club like United step in, who are willing to offer huge wages to get the deal done, things can change very quickly.
