Report provides update as Spurs open James Maddison talks with Leicester

According to talkSPORT, Tottenham have now opened talks with Leicester City regarding a deal for James Maddison.

We covered a report from The Telegraph on Thursday which suggested that Ange Postecoglou had made Maddison his ‘priority target’ this summer and had given the green light for Spurs to make a move for him.

If talkSPORT’s latest update is to be believed, the Lilywhites have wasted no time in starting talks with Leicester over a deal for the England international.

The publication explains that Postecoglou wants to bolster his squad ‘as soon as possible’ and that fact that Spurs are bereft of playmakers has made Maddison a ‘top target’ for the North London club.

The report asserts that the 26-year-old ‘ticks the boxes’ for Spurs in terms of attacking output, which is why they have now begun a dialogue to sign him.

Leicester City want a big fee for James Maddison

However, talkSPORT add that the Foxes are hoping to land a fee as high as £60m for their talisman this summer, which Tottenham are reluctant to pay.

The report adds that Newcastle also hold a long-standing interest in Maddison but they, just like Spurs, are not willing to pay over the odds for the player.

It appears as though Spurs are wasting no time in pushing ahead with moves for their top targets, which is encouraging.

In an ideal world, Postecoglou would like to have the bulk of the transfer business done before the pre-season tour to Asia and Oceania so that the players would have time to get used to his methods.
