Report provides update on Conte’s intentions with Pierluigi Gollini at Spurs

The print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) has claimed that Pierluigi Gollini is not expected to cut his loan spell at Spurs short.

Gollini arrived from Atalanta on a season-long loan deal in the summer, with Spurs having the option to sign him permanently for £13m.

The Italian international has made just two appearances under Antonio Conte  – the 2-1 win over NS Mura in the Europa Conference League and the 3-1 win over Morecambe in the FA Cup third round.

Italian outlet L’Eco di Bergamo (02/01/2022) claimed that Gollini could return to Atalanta this month and head out on another loan for the remainder of the season.

However, Fabrizio Romano has said to Last Word on Spurs (starting at 13:58) last week that the goalkeeper is quite popular in the dressing room and his future is not a priority for Spurs to address this month.

Gazzetta have now backed up Romano’s claim, dismissing reports that Gollini’s loan spell at Spurs could be prematurely cut short.

The report states that Conte’s ‘intention’ is to keep the 26-year-old at the club at least until the end of the season.

Spurs Web Opinion

It appears there is no chance of Spurs taking up the option to sign Gollini at the end of the season. So, the club will likely be in the market for a backup goalkeeper in the summer even if Lloris signs a contract extension.

It will be interesting to see if the club sign a young, up and coming goalkeeper in the summer who could potentially take over from Lloris when the Frenchman leaves, or if they settle for another clear second choice like Hart or Gollini.
