Report provides update on James Maddison contract talks amid Spurs links

The Telegraph have revealed that Leicester City have intensified contract talks with James Maddison amidst interest from the likes of Tottenham.

Maddison has been in exemplary form right from the start of the season, with the attacking midfielder netting his ninth goal of the season in the Foxes’ 4-1 win over Spurs on Saturday.

Multiple sources have revealed over recent months that Tottenham have their eye on the 26-year-old (Alasdair Gold on Football.London).

The North London club’s assistant first-team coach Cristian Stellini himself confirmed last week that the England international is a player that the Spurs coaching staff are fans of (Football.London).

The Telegraph have now named Tottenham as ‘keen admirers’ of Maddison, along with Newcastle United but they explain that Brendan Rodgers’ men have restarted negotiations with the player on a long-term extension.

The former Norwich City star’s current deal runs until the summer of 2024 but it is asserted that Leicester are determined to keep him at the King Power Stadium beyond that period.

Spurs Web Opinion

After a disastrous start to the season, Leicester have recovered quite well and there is no reason why they cannot finish comfortably in the top half of the table this season.

While that might aid them in their efforts to tie down Maddison, perhaps the 25-year-old has had his head turned by Champions League clubs.

Either way, Spurs might not have a chance of winning the race for the midfielder unless they finish in the top four.
