Report provides update on Nicolo Zaniolo situation amid Tottenham links

Gazzetta dello Sport have revealed that Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo would consider various offers from other clubs if AS Roma do not offer him a new contract by the end of January.

Tottenham allegedly made a concrete attempt to snap up Zaniolo in the summer, with Gianluca Di Marzio explaining on Wettfreunde that the only reason the deal fell through is that Roma wanted a straight cash deal while the North London club only made a part-exchange offer for the winger.

TuttoMercatoWeb reported a couple of weeks ago that Spurs are still at the front of the queue for the 23-year-old’s signature, ahead of Juventus.  The report asserted that Roma were keen on tying Zaniolo down to a new contract and warding off interest from Tottenham and Juve.

Gazzetta have now shed light on where the contract negotiations between the Giallorossi hierarchy and the winger’s entourage stand.

The publication explains that Roma’s general manager Tiago Pinto has already reached a verbal agreement with Zaniolo’s entourage regarding a new deal worth €4m (£3.4m) per season.

It is asserted that the club are now waiting for the green light from their owners, the Friedkin family, so that they can tie the player down to a new contract as soon as possible.

However, Gazzetta state that the situation is ‘becoming even more complicated with each passing day’ and that despite Zaniolo’s willingness to remain at the Stadio Olimpico, the winger would consider the offers on the table from other clubs if the deal is not offered by the end of January.

Spurs Web Opinion

I fully expect Tottenham to test the waters again for Zaniolo in January as Conte and Paratici are both evidently big fans of the winger. However, he looks highly likely to sign a new deal with Roma, particularly with Gazzetta now explaining that the terms of the contract have been verbally agreed upon between the parties.
