Report provides update on Ryan Mason and whether he could take over at Spurs

The Evening Standard have reported that Ryan Mason would be open to taking over as Tottenham’s interim head coach until the end of the season if he is asked to fill such a role.

Mason has been the temporary head coach of his boyhood club in the past when he finished out the season after Jose Mourinho was sacked, even managing against Pep Guardiola in the Carabao Cup Final.

After Antonio Conte was handed his marching orders earlier this year, Daniel Levy and co decided to hand the reigns to his number two, Cristian Stellini, instead of Mason.

However, following the 6-1 embarrassment at St James’ Park yesterday, it is thought that Stellini could also be sacked by the Lilywhites in the near future.

Fabrizio Romano has also reported that Ryan Mason would be the ‘favourite candidate’ to take over as Tottenham’s new interim head coach if Cristian Stellini is sacked.

It is said that a number of first-team players were surprised when Stellini was given the interim job in the first place.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Ryan Mason should have been given the job as soon as Conte was sacked. It is easy to say with hindsight, but clearing out the Italian’s staff and his way of football was the best thing for the club at the time. At least Mason would have had time to change the tactics and shape.
