Report provides update on Spurs’ hopes of selling Ndombele this summer

Calciomercato have claimed that Napoli will only decide whether to pursue a permanent deal for Tanguy Ndombele at the end of the season.

Napoli have the option to sign Ndombele permanently for £30m at the end of his loan spell but there have been mixed reports from Italy over the last few weeks on whether the Serie A club are likely to take up that option.

Area Napoli reported in February that the Frenchman seems destined to return to Spurs at the end of the season after failing to impress at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

However, this claim was contradicted by CalcioNapoli24, who suggested two weeks ago Luciano Spalletti’s men would consider signing the midfielder if the price is right.

Il Mattino (06/03/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) also stated earlier this week that the Serie A club could be open to signing the 26-year-old if Tottenham are willing to renegotiate the price.

According to Calcio Mercato’s latest update, Ndombele will be given a few more weeks to ‘convince’ Spalletti that he has a future at the club.

It is asserted that the Napoli boss wants to postpone the decision until the end of the season and that any deal would only be possible with a ‘substantial discount’.

Even if Tottenham were to open to offering such a discount, it is asserted that the Italian club’s sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, would be ‘ready to fly to London’ to re-discuss the price.

There is no doubt that Tottenham would be willing to renegotiate the deal for Ndombele as the North London club’s priority would be to offload the Frenchman, given the wages he is on.

The only possible way that could change is if Pochettino returns to the club and decides to give Ndombele a lifeline.
