Report provides update on Spurs hopes of signing Pau Torres and Gvardiol

The Daily Mail claim that Pau Torres is ready to leave Villarreal this summer amidst interest from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs are expected to prioritise signing a left-sided centre-back this summer (The Athletic), with Torres said to be one of the names on the North London club’s radar (Football Insider).

The Mail have now explained that the North Londoners are prepared to reignite their interest in the Spaniard, who rejected an approach from Spurs last summer.

The 25-year-old, who has a release clause of £55m, allegedly feels it is time for him to leave the Yellow Submarine and take on a new challenge.

The report explains that Josko Gvardiol of Red Bull Leipzig is also on Tottenham’s radar but the North London club fear increased competition for the Croat.

It is asserted that Sven Botman of Lille and Mario Hermoso of Atletico Madrid have slipped down the Spurs’ wishlist.

The Mail add that while suitors were hoping Torres would be available for around £45m, Unai Emery’s side will push for a fee closer to his buy-out clause.

The only question mark with respect to Torress is whether he can cope with the physicality of the Premier League. While the 25-year-old’s talent is not in doubt, he will likely take some period to adjust to English football and to playing in a back three.
