The print edition of Corriere di Bergamo (12/10/20 as relayed by Sport Witness) has claimed that Ruslan Malinovskyi, who Spurs were linked with in the summer, could be on his way out of Atalanta in January.
Despite being heavily linked with a move to Spurs in the final month of the summer transfer window (TuttoMercatoWeb), Malinovskyi ended up staying put at Atalanta.
Fabrizio Romano revealed in the days following the end of the transfer window that both Tottenham and Marseille wanted to sign the attacking midfielder on loan with an option to buy but Atalanta president Antonio Percassi prevented the player from leaving.
The journalist added that the 29-year-old’s future ‘remains open for next year’.
Corriere di Bergamo now take a look at Malinovskyi’s situation at Atalanta, and explain that the Ukrainian is ‘not happy’ and has not been performing to the expected level since his failed summer move.
The report mentions that Spurs, Nottingham Forest and Marseille were all keen on snapping up the attacking midfielder in the summer and add that a January departure ‘cannot be ruled out’.
Spurs Web Opinion
If Spurs really wanted Malinovskyi in the summer, I suspect they would have got him. The fact that the North Londoners were pushing for a loan rather than a permanent deal, suggests that they were not completely convinced by the Ukrainian. That is unlikely to have changed over the past couple of months.
