Report provides update on Tottenham’s potential pursuit of Pau Torres from Villarreal

According to the print edition of El Periodico Mediterraneo (25/05/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness), Villarreal are open to selling Tottenham target Pau Torres this summer.

The Daily Mail reported at the start of this month that Torres had emerged as Tottenham’s top centre-back target this summer.

Football Insider have even suggested that Spurs could use Giovani Lo Celso as a makeweight in the deal to land the Spain international.

Alasdair Gold said on his YouTube channel this week (starting at 10:06) that Inter Milan’s Allesandro Bastoni is the player that Antonio Conte prefers for the left centre-back role.

However, the journalist added that the deal for the Italian could prove ‘difficult’ as the Serie A club will demand a big fee.

El Periodico Mediterraneo have now explored the chance of Spurs reigniting their interest in Torres following the North London club’s failed move for the 25-year-old last summer.

The publication explains that a deal for the Villarreal star will be much more feasible for Tottenham this summer, with Unai Emery’s side set to play in the Europa Conference League next season while the Lilywhites have qualified for the Champions League.

It is asserted that the La Lig club would be open to selling Torres if their economic demands for the player are met.

Spurs Web Opinion

We know that Paratici is a fan of Torres, given that we made an approach for the Villarreal star last summer. So, the Spaniard could well be Tottenham’s fall-back option for the left-sided centre-back role if Inter Milan price Alessandro Bastoni out of a move to North London.
