Report provides update on whether Jack Grealish could face Tottenham

If ever there was a game that the Tottenham players need to prove something to the fans, it comes against Aston Villa this weekend.

Spurs come into the Premier League tie off the back of not only a woeful North London Derby defeat but also a 3-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League that saw the Lilywhites exit the competition.

Aston Villa have been without their talismanic left-sided midfielder, Jack Grealish, for the past five games after he picked up a shin injury.

However, the England man is edging closer to a return and The Atheltic have reported that Villa will give him one more day before deciding whether he can play against Spurs.

Dean Smith revealed that Grealish had not yet trained with the first-team but is once again free of pain and running.

He added that the final decision would likely come down to Grealish himself and that if he misses the Spurs game, he is guaranteed to be back for the match against Fulham.

Smith said (The Athletic): “I’m hopeful for Jack. He’s not trained with us yet, but he’s pain-free and he’s running.

£Ultimately it will be his decision. If he doesn’t play then I can pretty much guarantee he will be ready for the Fulham game after the international break.

“I know Aston Villa fans will be fretting over whether it’s a long-term injury, but it’s not. It’s always been one where we have been guided by Jack who has been suffering the pain.

“I’m hopeful but we will leave it as late as possible.

“He’s been running and can strike a ball but he hasn’t trained with the group.”
