Report provides update on whether Spurs will make a move for Djed Spence

Tottenham will reportedly make a move to sign Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence if loan club Nottingham Forest fail to gain promotion to the Premier League, according to Football.London.

Spence, who joined Forest on loan for the campaign, has been a shining light under manager Steve Cooper in the club’s quest to return to the English top-flight.

The 21-year-old has been ever-present at wing-back and helped his side to get within 90 minutes of promotion as they eliminated Sheffield United from contention last Tuesday after a play-off semi-final penalty shootout.

While he and his Forest teammates will be preparing for their Championship play-off final against Huddersfield, the tie is likely to be crucial in deciding where his future lies.

Football.London have now claimed that should Forest fail to earn promotion in next Sunday’s Wembley showpiece, Tottenham are expected to step up their pursuit of Spence in the summer.

Spurs chased Spence in the January transfer window but failed to land their target after having two bids turned down by Middlesbrough, who were holding out for a higher offer (ESPN).

The London-born wide man is approaching his 50th appearance in all competitions this season, while he also earned minutes as an England U21 international (Transfermarkt).

Obviously, if Forest do not achieve promotion, that will invite a host of suitors for Spence given he has done so well in the Championship this term.

He is a good option to look at as he ticks plenty of boxes from a wing-back point of view, as well as being homegrown and at an age where he will be able to keep improving.
