Report provides update on Zaniolo situation – Roma and Spurs now in talks

Tottenham and Roma are currently in talks over a deal for Nicolo Zaniolo, according to Foot Mercato.

The report states an exit for the 23-year-old this summer is now likely with Roma open to letting him leave the club, which includes the idea of a loan deal with an option to buy.

It adds Zaniolo may not have a guaranteed place in Jose Mourinho’s forward line following the arrival of Paulo Dybala, who has been added alongside Tammy Abraham and Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Spurs got a close-up view of Zaniolo on Saturday when they took on Roma in Israel in what was their final match of the pre-season period, although it was a frustrating night for the young Italian.

Tuttosport claim the club’s managing director Fabio Paratici will meet with Giallorossi chief Tiago Pinto over the weekend with the aim of finding a compromise to sign the Italy international.

Zaniolo enjoyed a strong recent campaign after spending a long period on the sidelines with a major knee injury.

He made 42 appearances last season, scoring eight goals and laying on nine (Transfermarkt) as Roma won the inaugural Europa Conference League final.

Spurs Web Opinion

With talks now underway between Spurs and Roma, it could signal that things are starting to move in the direction of a transfer being completed.

It likely won’t be an easy deal to get over the line given how talented Zaniolo is but there is plenty of time remaining in the window for things to come together.
