Report provides update on Zaniolo’s contract situation amid Spurs links

Calciomecato.it have revealed that AS Roma are still optimistic about reaching an agreement on a new contract with Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo.

Zaniolo was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham over the summer transfer window, with Corriere dello Sport (22/08/22 – via Sport Witness) reporting last month that they came ‘very close’ to sealing a deal before the Roma owners blocked a transfer.

The Italy international’s future remains up in the air, with 90 min reporting this week that the Giallorossi are not willing to offer the player the pay rise he is demanding.

However, according to Calciomercato.it’s latest update, the gap between Zaniolo’s demands and what Roma are prepared to offer is far from insurmountable.

It is explained that the 23-year-old wants a salary of €4m (£3.4m) per year plus bonuses while the Serie A club are willing to offer him €3m (£2.6m) plus bonuses.

The report also reveals that Juventus only carried out exploratory polls for Zaniolo during the summer transfer window and that it was Tottenham who ‘tried the most’ to sign the winger.

One would expect Roma to put Zaniolo on the market in January if the winger does not sign a new contract before then. However, there is still plenty of time before that and if the above update is true, the differences between the parties will likely be resolved by then.
