Report: PSG considered letting Pochettino leave for Man Utd on two conditions

According to Telefoot, Paris Saint-Germain were willing to let Mauricio Pochettino leave the club to become Manchester United’s new manager if two conditions were met.

The former Tottenham boss had been linked with a move to Old Trafford after the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, however, United chiefs since secured the services of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager on Monday.

The German tactician will hold a temporary position in the Red Devils dugout until the end of the season before taking up a consultancy role on the club’s board, meaning the managerial vacancy will likely open up again.

As such, Pochettino could again be linked as the man to fill the position in the summer, with the Argentine still being touted as a leading candidate for the role.

However, French outlet Telefoot claim he could have been the United manager already if the Premier League side met two of PSG’s terms.

It has been claimed the French giants would have let Pochettino leave for a compensation fee of £17 million, which would have bought out the entirety of his contract which runs until the summer of 2023.

Should the terms of the financial package have been agreed, the second condition would have been that Pochettino would be allowed to leave only if they secured the services of Zinedine Zidane as his direct replacement.

The ex-Real Madrid boss had been shortlisted as an option to take over by PSG chiefs, however, an approach for the France icon never came to fruition which condemned Pochettino to a stay in Paris.

United’s managerial search has been halted briefly and it looks like they will try to revisit Pochettino in the summer. For Spurs fans, it would be a tough watch to see him in the United dugout, but we have to accept it given he has since been long gone from the club.
