Report: PSG owner tells Leonardo to start research for potential Pochettino replacement

Mauricio Pochettino’s future at Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly under question, according to reports.

La Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed the Emir of Qatar and PSG owner Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has told the club’s sporting director, Leonardo to start his research over a potential replacement.

The report which has also been featured by Le10 Sport suggests that the French giants have an interest in former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri, who has been out of work since leaving the Old Lady in 2019.

PSG’s owners have been left unhappy at the fact that the club failed to win the Ligue 1 title when they missed out on fourth-successive crown after Lille finished a point ahead of them.

Pochettino only joined the Paris-based club in January, having signed a contract until the summer of 2022 with the option of a further year (Independent).

Football.London claimed earlier this week that the Argentine is not currently a candidate to replace Jose Mourinho, but he would come into the reckoning if his situation in France changed.

The Sun claimed on Wednesday that Pochettino was seriously considering a return to North London since he was unhappy in Paris.

Given the fact that Pochettino has only had a matter of months to try and make an impact at PSG seems somewhat unfair that he would be sacked so soon.

The Argentine would need a full season and a pre-season with his players before he can be fully judged, however, if PSG are uncertain about the future of their former player, it could certainly play into Tottenham’s advantage.
