Report: Rangers not willing to meet asking price for rumoured Spurs target

The Daily Record have revealed that Rangers are not willing to meet Besiktas’ £6m asking price for rumoured Tottenham target Ridvan Yilmaz.

The wing-back, who notched up seven-goal contributions during the 2021/22 campaign (Transfermarkt), has impressed for both club and country over the last 12 months.

Tottenham have already strengthened at left wing-back this summer with the addition of Ivan Perisic, and the Croat is expected to compete with Ryan Sessegnon for a place in Antonio Conte’s starting eleven next season (Football.London).

However, that has not stopped the speculation linking the North London club with a move for Yilmaz, with Turkiye Gazetesi reporting previously that Antonio Conte’s men were ready to pay around €8m (£6.7m) to land the 21-year-old this summer.

Fanatik even claimed a couple of weeks ago that Spurs had stepped up their efforts to sign the Turkey international, but the speculation has gone quiet since.

The Daily Record have now revealed that Besiktas would have to lower their £6m asking price for Yilmaz if Rangers are to sign the left-back this summer.

It is explained that although the Scottish giants have made the youngster one of the priority targets to replace Calvin Bassey, who has now joined Ajax, they will only sign the Besiktas starlet if the price is right.

The report adds that Yilmaz is also attracting interest from plenty of top clubs around Europe.

If Spurs do sign Yilmaz, we will likely see the youngster being loaned back out like Pape Matar Sarr was last summer. So the north London club will certainly not be in a hurry to get the deal done for the 21-year-old, with plenty of time still left in the transfer window.
