Report: Real Madrid enter race for central defender wanted by Spurs

Real Madrid are said to weighing up a potential move for Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer, who is reportedly a target for Spurs this summer.

Ajer arrived at Celtic as a midfielder four years ago but has been transformed into an outstanding centre-half during his time with the Scottish giants.

The 22-year-old has arguably gone up yet another level this season and reports indicate that several clubs around Europe have been tracking his rise.

Sporten reported last month that Tottenham were considering a move for the Norwegian in the summer while AC Milan are also said to be interested in the defender (Calcio Mercato).

Mundo Deportivo now reveal that Ajer has emerged as an option for Real Madrid as they seek to sign a long-term replacement for Sergio Ramos.

It is claimed that Los Blancos star, Martin Odegaard, who is currently on loan at Real Sociedad, alerted Madrid to the talents of his international teammate.

However, the report does reveal that the Celtic star is likely Premier League-bound this summer with the La Liga giants primarily eyeing up Dayot Upamecano.

Ajer has been impressive every single time I have seen him play for the past couple of years but there are question marks over whether he would be able to make the step up from the Scottish League to the Premier League given the massive difference in quality. However, that isn’t to say that it can’t be done, as examples like Virgil van Dijk show.
