Report: Real Madrid favourites to sign old Spurs target in January

According to a report in the Mirror, Real Madrid are now favourites to sign Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek in January.

The Los Blancos are said to be looking for long term replacements for Luka Modric and Tony Kross. It is claimed that Ajax want £100m for Van de Beek but that the Spanish giants are willing to pay that fee.

Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan told talkSPORT over the summer that Van de Beek wanted a Premier League move with both Tottenham and Manchester United reported to be interested in him.

Neither Spurs nor Man Utd paid up the fee for Van de Beek and now the 22-year-old’s value has inflated even further.

If Madrid do make the Dutch international their primary target, then that could also have implications on Christian Eriksen’s future as well. The Dane is into the final year of his contract and the club could lose him for nothing in the summer if they don’t sell him in January.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on reports over the summer, it doesn’t look like Donny Van de Beek was one of Spurs’ main targets. Even if Real Madrid wanted Eriksen, they know they can get him for a free in the summer and perhaps that is why they have decided to prioritize Van De Beek’s signing in January.
