Report: Real Madrid identify Spurs star as a potential top transfer target this summer

According to the print edition of The Sunday Mirror (13/2; page 73), Real Madrid have identified Sergio Reguilon as their top left-back target ahead of the summer transfer window.

Reguilon moved from Madrid to North London in a deal worth around £28m in 2020, with Los Blancos inserting a buy-back clause in the deal that could be activated until the summer of 2022 (Football.London).

The Spaniard has blown hot and cold during his year and a half at Spurs so far but his performances have been on an upward trajectory since Antonio Conte took over at the club.

Spanish news outlet ABC claimed a couple of days ago that Real Madrid are mulling over whether to trigger their buy-back clause for Reguilon.

This has now been backed by The Mirror, who claim that the La Liga giants have identified the Tottenham man as their top target to replace Marcelo.

The report adds that the buy-back clause is worth £33.6m and can be activated until May. It is revealed that Carlo Ancelotti’s men are expected to make a decision whether to re-sign Reguilon before the end of this month.

Spurs Web Opinion

Reguilon has certainly shown signs of adapting to the left wing-back role over the past couple of weeks.

However, I would not be crushed if Madrid do activate the clause as £33m would arguably be slightly higher than his actual market value at this stage of his career.

We should be able to find a decent left wing-back for around £30m to £35m in case the 25-year-old decides to head back to the Spanish capital.
