Report: Real Madrid interested in signing player Spurs sold last summer

According to CalcioMercato, Real Madrid are interested in a move for former Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth.

Foyth arrived at Spurs from Estudiantes in the summer of 2017 and while he did not get much of a look in during his first season in North London, the Argentine showed real promise in the opportunities that came his way in the 2018-19 campaign.

However, the 24-year-old saw himself fall down the pecking order after Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino at the helm.

Foyth demonstrated his versatility during a season-long loan spell at Villarreal last season and it did not come as much of a surprise when the La Liga club activated the option to sign him permanently for £12.5m last summer (Marca).

The Argentina international is having another exceptional season at El Madrigal and if CalcioMercato’s update is to be believed, the former Spurs man’s performances have caught the attention of Real Madrid.

The report claims that Los Blancos are set to target Foyth when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Due to a lack of any consistency in the type of managers we have appointed over the last couple of years, our decisions in the transfer window have been shambolic.

For example, one can make the case that Foyth and Waker-Peters would have been good fits for the right centre-back and right wing-back roles respectively under Conte.

However, neither of them fitted Mourinho’s style of play, which is why we ended up selling them well below their market value.
