Report: Real Madrid leading the race for Spurs-linked centre-back

Goal.com have reported that Real Madrid are leading the race for Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Rudiger’s current contract at Stamford Bridge runs out in the summer and Chelsea have been unable to reach an agreement with him over a new deal so far.

The speculation linking him with a move across London to Spurs has shown no signs of slowing down.

The Express claimed in October that Spurs were monitoring Rudiger’s contract situation while Gianluca Di Marzio stated at the start of this month that Tottenham were one of four clubs who were in talks with the central defender.

Transfer market expert Dean Jones said just last week that Spurs were prepared to push the boat out to get the 28-year-old before later adding (on the Done Deal Show) that the North Londoners were the only English club interested in German.

Goal.com have now revealed that Los Blancos are the front-runners for Rudiger’s signature while Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also on the Chelsea star’s trail.

Spurs Web Opinion

The speculation linking Spurs with a move for Rudiger never made sense to begin with as I do not see why the centre-back would want to move to N17 and risk turning the Chelsea fans against him. Besides, the 28-year-old is going to have no shortage of suitors if he does not sign an extension at Stamford Bridge.
