Report: Real Madrid player expected to seal Tottenham move

Forbes have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are expected to seal the capture of Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon this transfer window.

On the back of his impressive season on loan at Sevilla, Reguilon was rumoured to be on Spurs’ radar (ESPN).

While Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in the defender, The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed earlier this week (Ask Ornstein Podcast) that the Red Devils believed Real Madrid could be using them to in order to draw a bid from the Lilywhites for the left-back.

Forbes have now expanded on the claim and revealed that although the Spain international was on United’s radar, the club are unlikely to make an offer for him.

The report reveals that the 23-year-old is not a priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the expectation at Old Trafford is that Reguilon will join Tottenham.

This report runs contrary to the admission by Jose Mourinho in Friday’s pre-match press conference that he was happy with his options at left-back (Football.London).

It is possible that Mourinho’s statement was a smokescreen to keep our pursuit of Reguilon under wraps. However, given the gaping holes we have in a couple of other positions, I would be surprised if we were to sign a left-back this transfer window.
