Report: Real Madrid plotting surprise move for Tottenham defender

Inter Live have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur right-back Emerson Royal has emerged as a transfer target for Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Emerson has been the understudy to Pedro Porro at right-back for much of the season, however, the Brazilian has been entrusted with the responsibility of playing as a centre-back in Tottenham’s last two matches due to the North London club’s injury crisis and Cristian Romero having had to serve a three-match ban following his red card against Chelsea.

The 24-year-old has given a decent account of himself, considering that he played in an unfamiliar position, but Inter Live have now suggested that his days at Spurs could be numbered.

Real Madrid keen on Emerson Royal

The report says that Real Madrid have monitored the Tottenham man for ‘several weeks’ and could come forward for the player once the transfer window opens in January.

The outlet claims that Los Blancos are ‘desperately looking for a right-back’ in the winter transfer window and ‘have already chosen’ Emerson as their top target.

However, it is explained that the La Liga giants are only willing to offer €20m (£17m) for the former Real Betis man while Tottenham are thought to value him at around €35m (£30m).

The publication adds that Emerson is ‘eager’ to leave Tottenham in search of regular game time and his preference would be to leave the Premier League.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not see Tottenham considering offloading Emerson Royal in January as he is the main cover for Pedro Porro at right-back. However, Spurs might perhaps look to upgrade on the Brazilian in next summer’s transfer window.
