Report: Real Madrid star snubbed summer approach from Tottenham

Real Madrid midfielder Marcos Asensio rejected offers from both Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan this summer, according to Spanish news outlet Marca.

The 25-year-old is said to have been determined to win the trust of new Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti rather than look to depart the Santiago Bernabeu.

Asensio has seen his progress affected at the La Liga giants due to injury-plagued seasons, which included a cruciate ligament rupture in the summer of 2019 that saw him miss 41 matches in all competitions (transfermarkt).

Fichajes claimed late last month that Tottenham were in the frame for the Spanish international ahead of the summer transfer window deadline, along with Arsenal and Liverpool

Asensio has stiff competition for a regular place in the Madrid starting eleven where he is up against Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard, Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr.

SpursWeb Opinion

Asensio would have been a brilliant addition to the Spurs squad and would have helped to have filled the void left by Christian Eriksen following his move to Inter Milan.

The North Londoners miss the creative spark left by the Dane, where Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele have both failed to be the conduit between midfield and attack.
